Subject Area Tutoring at Davidson Center

We offer tutoring for a wide range of subjects, from early literacy skills through Advanced Placement courses, with both in‑person and virtual options.

Explore What We Teach

Pre-School

Our Pre-School tutors lay the groundwork for lifelong learning:

  • Early reading/literacy development: letters, sounds, rhyming, and listening to stories, print awareness
  • Early math: counting, numbers to 10, and simple shapes, sorting, patterns, and comparing
  • Pre-writing: building hand strength with play (playdough, tweezers, building) and early writing strokes and shapes

Elementary School Tutoring (K–5)

Our elementary tutors build strong foundations in:

  • Reading and writing: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension, with reading and writing integrated into the session.
  • Written expression: formal sentence structure, grammar, and paragraph writing in both fiction and nonfiction pieces.
  • Responding to text: explicit instruction in the RACE method (restate, answer, cite evidence, explain) for verbal and written responses.
  • Math: conceptual understanding using hands‑on manipulatives, visual models, and games to strengthen number sense and problem‑solving confidence.

Middle School Tutoring (6–8)

Middle school sessions extend earlier skills with greater rigor and independence:

  • Advanced reading and writing: all elementary skills applied to more complex, grade‑level, and above‑grade‑level texts.
  • Analytical writing: multi‑paragraph responses, text‑based evidence, and clear structure across content areas.
  • Executive functioning may include: organization systems, planning for long‑term assignments, breaking down projects, and developing productive study routines.

High School Tutoring (9–12)

High school tutoring supports both daily coursework and long‑term readiness for college and careers:

  • Content‑area support: Math I–IV, English, History, Science, and World Languages (Spanish and French). AP course tutoring in all content areas.
  • Advanced literacy skills: critical thinking, close reading of complex texts, and writing that includes crafting clear arguments and synthesizing information from multiple sources.
  • Executive functioning and study skills: managing the full writing process from brainstorming to final revision, building organization and time‑management systems, and strengthening note‑taking and test‑prep strategies to prepare for the next stage of life.

Choose How You Meet

Most students meet with tutors on‑site at our center, where they benefit from a calm, structured environment designed for focused learning.

We also offer remote tutoring through LessonSpace, a fully interactive virtual platform that allows for shared whiteboards, uploaded assignments, and real‑time feedback, so students can receive the same high‑quality instruction from home.
