Therapy Dogs

Meet Andi Rose and Rachel - Davidson Center's resident therapy dogs.

Andi Rose and Rachel are Davidson Center’s resident therapy dogs. This dynamic duo is mother and daughter. That’s right: Rachel is Andi Rose’s mom!

These two bring joy to the Center every day. Whether they are welcoming families, joining in tutoring sessions, or going for walks when kids need a break, they spread love and happiness to each and every Davidson Center visitor.

Besides just being fun to have around, there are amazing benefits to having therapy dogs at Davidson Center. They contribute to a more supportive and inclusive atmosphere, making the tutoring center feel welcoming and safe for all students.

Emotional Benefits

  • Therapy dogs can reduce anxiety and stress, creating a calming environment that helps students feel more comfortable and supported.
  • Interacting with a friendly animal has been shown to lower cortisol (the stress hormone) and promote the release of oxytocin, which enhances mood and makes kids feel safe.
  • Children who interact with therapy dogs often experience improved self-esteem, increased confidence, and a greater sense of emotional stability.

Academic and Cognitive Benefits

  • The presence of therapy dogs is associated with increased concentration, improved engagement in learning, and heightened motivation to participate in tutoring activities.
  • Students may show improvements in reading, problem-solving, and executive functioning skills, as therapy dogs provide a comforting and encouraging presence for literacy-related tasks.
