Our History

John & Mary Jane Freeman founded The Davidson Center for Learning and Academic Planning in 1999. From the outset, we made the commitment to help children and adolescents thrive educationally by providing the best individualized services possible. With the help of a uniquely experienced psychologist, Dr. Gary Patrick, and two tutors (Judy Martin and Matt Jordan), we opened our doors in August of 1999. Along the way we attracted dedicated professionals who shared our vision for learning and who brought their talents, expertise and dedication. Our highly qualified staff includes Ph.D. and Master’s Level professionals, L.D. specialists and certified elementary and high school teachers.

Over the past sixteen years we have: evaluated well over one thousand children and adolescents, provided college counseling to hundreds of teenagers, assisted families in boarding school advising and placement, helped families in therapeutic placements for troubled children and teens (Wilderness program, therapeutic boarding schools, residential treatment centers). We believe your child can learn and thrive. Our mission is to work together with families to help students achieve their academic potential by providing the best services and resources available.
