Courses for Credit

Changing the Direction of Students' Lives

The Davidson Center for Learning is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SASC CASI). Consequently, The Davidson Center for Learning can offer:
  • Courses for credit (when students have not taken the class previously)
  • Courses for credit recovery (when students have failed classes during the school year)
Since earning our accreditation in 2003, we have helped hundreds of students earn course credits, some even earning their high school diplomas through this service. Among those taking advantage of this service have been home school students/groups, students with external constraints on their schedules that prevent them from attending traditional schools, students transferring from one school to another, and those in need of credit recovery for classes failed during the school year.

Receiving Credit for a New Course

To consider options for receiving school credit, a family meets with the Center Director and provides a detailed description of the student's background, course history, and goals. Based on this review, the Center Director determines the appropriate options, which may include:
  • Pursuing a school approved course for credit through The Davidson Center for Learning
  • Pursuing courses for credit through an accredited remote or internet learning school with instruction provided by The Davidson Center for Learning
  • Applying for home school status and employing The Davidson Center for Learning to assist with the student's course of study, or
  • If the student is already a home school student, forming a home school group course for credit

Recovering Credit for a Failed Course

When a student needs to recover credit for a failed course, the Center Director can outline approaches that may be appropriate, such as our Summer School program, depending on the policies of the school where the student was enrolled in the course. The student's school principal must approve the student's request to take a course in order to recover credit for a failed course.
